Goal journeys and check-ins

Turn a goal into a plan built from your material, and have Orb check in on it out loud.

A goal journey turns something you want to get done into a road you can travel: milestones, the tasks inside them, and check-ins along the way.

Planning a journey

Open Goal journeys and tell Orb where you want to get to, or simply ask for a plan in conversation. It starts from three questions: what the journey is called, what you want to be true at the end, and what counts as done. You can attach reference material, or use something already in your knowledge base.

Every answer Orb proposes is labelled with where it came from:

  • From your documents, with the passage it relied on;
  • From you, because you said it;
  • or Orb’s suggestion, clearly marked as such.

The road

Orb then maps out the milestones and the tasks within them, with the dependencies between them, and separates work time from waiting time, such as a reply you are waiting for. It checks the plan against your working week and tells you if it does not fit. Set your working days and hours under Your working week, in the Goal journeys section of the Knowledge base panel.

Approving, or changing your mind

Nothing starts until you approve it. Say so, or use the button. Changed your mind? Undo it the same way, by voice or with a button.

Check-ins

As milestones come due, Orb checks in. It asks out loud, with suggested answers you can tap or say. Choose the tone under Coaching tone, in the same section as your working week:

  • Supportive: warm and encouraging;
  • Straight talk: direct, without the cushioning;
  • Drill sergeant: for when you want to be pushed.

Check-ins happen while Orb is open in your browser. If its tab is in the background, you get a browser notification and a chime. Orb does not send notifications to your phone when the browser is closed.
